Employment law

Employment law is a fluid and fast-changing area of law. Being alive to your obligations as an employer and recruiting, retaining and managing the right people, has never been more critical. Non-compliance with obligations can be expensive, in financial and reputational terms. We work with clients on proactive reviews of their employment policy to ensure they adopt up-to-the-minute employment practices. We produce imaginative and practical responses to the impact of new law on our clients' businesses.
We advice our clients on both contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including:

  •  Dismissal of employees and employment disputes, including breach of contract and restrictive covenants
  • Review of employment practices and policy
  •  Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE)
  • Discrimination, equal pay and the increasingly regulated areas of working time, health and safety and 'family-friendly' policies
  •  EU legislation on UK employment matters
  • Collective redundancies, employee consultations and alternatives to redundancy
  • Terms of engagement of employees - especially key senior personnel
  • Corporate governance, including phased payments and avoiding rewards for failure
  • Prepare cases for the Employment Tribunal

The majority of employment disputes settle prior to a hearing and so the group has considerable experience in negotiating settlements and resolutions.
